A Day at the Beach
Spent the day at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, CT. Beautiful day, got lots of sun(burn), but upon leaving found the car dead, dead, and gone. Thank goodness for AAA! And thank goodness for our dear friend Annie who ended up driving a total of 4 hours to come get us, bring us to Susan's brother's house to pick up another car, and drive home. It only added about, um, 3 hours to our day. No biggie. It was a grand adventure!! Just glad it wasn't my car.
I am home now with a really bad sunburn and I'm stickin' it to the earwigs because I just won't allow them to ruin my perfect day.

I want my apartment back
I need my sleep. I normally go to bed quite late, but last night was even worse. Bugs. I have a debilitating fear of bugs. One bug seen in my apartment is a problem, 2 or more of that bug seen on the same day is an infestation. I could handle the ladybugs cause they're not that gross. Earwigs, however, are a different story. I was going to post a photo, but they are just too disgusting. Instead of the peaceful sanctuary it once was, my apartment has now become a place of fear and loathing, where I am terrified to sit, sleep, or eat. There was one on the bedside table last night and I couldn't relax enough to fall asleep; I finally dropped off from sheer exhaustion and I can only wonder how many of them were crawling around on my bed, unbeknownst to me. Eeew! I want my apartment back.

It's not like diabetes defines me
It isn't what I am, it's what I have. A disease. And it wouldn't be too remarkable even to me--who has this thing--except that it changes everything. It turned food, which has always been my enemy since about, oh, when I started working at Baskin Robbins 23 years ago, into medicine. Or poison. Food is now not just food...you eat, you sleep, you live, you die. No. To me, living with diabetes has turned food into something I am afraid of. If I eat the right amounts of the right stuff, I will live healthy and happy. If I eat the wrong things...or even the right things in the wrong amounts...I'm poisoning myself.
Oh, I just love a challenge.
